Une catastrophe sans précédent s’abattit sur la Terre au 20e siècle.Le monde entier fut détruit par un impact de météorites. L’histoire se déroule à Rikka, la ville académique sur l’eau, appelée généralement Asterisk et composée de six académies de magie. La ville est considérée comme le lieu du plus grand tournoi d’académies du monde.
